In Song Wat's narrow alley, if you catch sight of a coffee shop where the aroma of roasted coffee wafts in the morning sunlight—that's SCR – Song Wat Coffee Roasters, a stop that's both old and new at the same time.
Upon entering, we're greeted by the atmosphere of an old house brought to life—bare concrete walls, wooden textures, dark metal furniture, and large windows that gently let in natural light. The atmosphere is unpretentious, yet thoughtfully crafted—a small corner full of meaning.
Here, they focus on roasting their own coffee (roastery + café)—every cup is carefully selected from the beginning—from the beans, to the roasting, to the brewing process—to ensure a distinct and well-balanced flavor.
The coffee menu is diverse—espresso, drip, dirty, cold brew, and the signature Songwat Latte, which many describe as "smooth, creamy, and well-balanced."
We ordered the Dirty and Songwat Latte—the Dirty is strong but not overwhelming, with a rich milky consistency that still maintains the coffee's star power. The Songwat Latte is well-rounded, with a soft texture and a subtle nutty flavor, just like a coffee that's carefully crafted without compromise.
The desserts are also interesting—they offer homemade pastries like egg custard pastries, a well-balanced canelé, and other sweet treats that are not cloyingly sweet.
We tried the egg custard and canelé—crispy on the outside, moist on the inside, and perfectly balanced.
The service here is warm—the baristas are always on hand to recommend coffee beans, ask about our desired flavor profile, and ensure the quality of the cup served to you. They don't just "serve it right" but "want it to be really good."
A few points to note: The shop is quite small, with limited seating. If you come on a weekend afternoon, you might have to wait, or choose a spot that's not a great photo spot.
The lighting inside can sometimes be dim. This makes some photo spots look a bit shady.
