I had the opportunity to visit the National Museum, which is very close to me, but I just realized that it has so many “intriguing items,” especially the zones displaying items from ancient times to the Ayutthaya-Rattanakosin periods and the present.
Beginning and Outline
The National Museum Bangkok is located on Na Phra That Road, Phra Borom Maha Ratchawang Subdistrict, Bangkok. Originally the Front Palace, or the Front Palace, in 1859, it was established as Thailand's first public museum.
The museum exhibits a wide range of antiquities and artifacts, spanning prehistoric times, the Metal Age, through the Sukhothai, Ayutthaya, and Rattanakosin periods, as well as contemporary Thai art.
What Impressed Me:
• The admission fee for Thais is very affordable (only ten baht), making me feel like I'm getting something great close to home.
• The ancient pottery and bowls zone was one of my favorite sections, as it allowed me to see how they were made in the past. The collection clearly demonstrates the development of patterns, forms, and techniques throughout the ages.
• There are different zones divided by era and topic, such as archaeology, decorative arts, tools, and ceramics, as well as fine artifacts such as goldwork, carved wood jewelry, and more.
• The atmosphere is excellent for exploring the museum — the ancient buildings truly create the feeling of stepping into the past.
Visiting Tips
• It's recommended to visit in the morning or early afternoon to enjoy a leisurely stroll, avoid crowds, and allow for detailed exploration.
• Due to the large number of exhibition zones, if you want to see everything, plan your visit in advance (e.g., archaeology → Ayutthayan art → bowls and plates).
• Don't forget to bring a camera or smartphone, as there are many photo opportunities with the museum's artifacts and architecture.
Conclusion
My visit to the National Museum Bangkok gave me a clearer understanding of Thai history, exploring its history from the past to the present. It's a great activity near Bangkok that's worth taking the time to visit, whether you're a history buff or just looking for a relaxing getaway. It's a great place to visit!
