Discover the urban grassland of Baotou, a poetic escape just a bus ride away
Baotou's Saihantala Urban Grassland is a must-see on any autumn travel list.
In Inner Mongolia, most grasslands are hidden away from the city, often requiring an hour's drive to reach. But Baotou is different. Here, a vast urban grassland is just a bus ride away.
Saihantala, meaning "beautiful grassland" in Mongolian, is a rare urban grassland in China and even Asia. Originally a natural wetland and a prime pasture for the Urat tribe, it was preserved during the city's development and is now a natural treasure of Baotou.
Step onto this grassland and be greeted by lush greenery, with grass like a carpet and trees scattered throughout, creating a picturesque landscape. In summer, the grass is lush, the air is fragrant, and the sound of birds fills the air, transporting you to a poetic scene of "the sky is vast, the land is boundless, and the wind blows the grass to reveal cattle and sheep."
Here, a variety of experiences await. Get up close and personal with the bold and free spirit of the Mongolian people, enjoy lively song and dance performances, ride a horse across the grassland, feed the lively deer, and try your hand at archery. When you're tired, head to the Mongolian camp for authentic grassland cuisine.
