Casa Milà, also known as "The Stone House" (La Pedrera), is an architectural masterpiece completed by Spanish architect Antoni Gaudí in 1912. It is located on Passeig de Gràcia in Barcelona.
The building is known for its distinctive wavy facade, sculptural balconies and unusual chimneys on the roof and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The architectural design is very artistic. Casa Mila does not have a traditional straight-line structure. The whole thing looks like a huge weathered stone sculpture, full of fluidity.
The rooftop terrace is one of the highlights. The fantastic chimneys seem to be part of a fairy tale world and are worth taking photos of. Inside, there is the "Espai Gaudí" exhibition, which displays his architectural concepts, models and design sketches, helping to understand his sources of inspiration (such as natural elements). Visitors can enter the interior of the apartment from the early 20th century and experience the living environment at that time and Gaudí's design details.
Casa Milà is located in the center of Barcelona, with convenient transportation and close to many shops and restaurants, making it a good place to plan surrounding trips. However, the ticket prices are high, with the basic ticket costing about 25 euros, and the price for night visits or guided tours being even higher, which may be a bit expensive for travelers on a budget. As it is a popular attraction, it is usually crowded during the day. It is recommended to make reservations in advance or choose to visit at night to experience different lighting effects.
Although some apartment spaces can be visited, not the entire building is open to the public and some areas are still used as private residences or offices. If you are interested in Gaudí's architecture, La Pedrera is definitely worth a visit. It is not only an architectural wonder, but also a great place to gain in-depth insights into Gaudí’s creativity and ideas. It is recommended to purchase tickets online in advance and avoid peak hours so that you can appreciate this unique building more comfortably.
