Highlights: Bath immediately impressed with its harmonious Georgian architecture golden stone buildings, sweeping crescents, and wide, elegant streets. We started at the Roman Baths, where the ancient pools and temple ruins were incredibly well-preserved. Walking through the steam-filled chambers and seeing the layers of history beneath the city felt like stepping back in time.
Just next door, Bath Abbey towered above the square. The fan-vaulted ceiling inside was breathtaking, and we climbed the tower for panoramic views over the rooftops and surrounding hills. From there, we wandered through the Royal Crescent and The Circus, admiring the symmetry and grandeur of 18th-century design.
We spent a quiet hour at the Thermae Bath Spa, relaxing in the rooftop pool with views over the city a perfect modern nod to Bath’s spa heritage. Later, we explored quaint bookshops and stopped for a traditional afternoon tea (scones, clotted cream, the works) at a tucked-away café.
The entire city felt like a well-kept secret compact, graceful, and steeped in layers of history. Every corner revealed another beautiful facade or quiet courtyard. A perfect blend of ancient and elegant.
