Located in the center of Beijing, the Temple of Heaven in Beijing is a sacred place for offering sacrifices to heaven in ancient China. It was built during the Yongle period of the Ming Dynasty (about 1420). It was the place where the emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties offered sacrifices to heaven and prayed for good harvests, symbolizing the concept of "round heaven and square earth". It covers an area of 273 hectares.
The main architectural complex of the Temple of Heaven includes the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests, the Circular Mound and the Imperial Vault of Heaven. The Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests is the landmark building of the Temple of Heaven. It is famous for its unique circular structure and blue glazed tiles, symbolizing the roundness of the sky. Every winter solstice, the emperor would hold a grand ceremony to offer sacrifices to heaven here, praying for a good harvest and good health in the coming year.
Now, the Temple of Heaven not only attracts a large number of tourists, but is also a must-see attraction for Beijing travel. It is also a place for daily activities for local residents. The entire park is shaded by trees, the environment is elegant, and the breeze is refreshing. It is a good place for people to relax and take a walk.
