The weather in Beijing is getting warmer in March🍃, which is a good time to start a trip to the suburbs of Beijing. Although the trees outside the suburbs are not yet green, the temperature is pleasant☀️. It's a good time to visit ancient villages, climb mountains⛰️, and take children for a walk on weekends.
I haven't been to Mentougou District very often. Cuangdixia Village🏡 has been free to enter since May 1, 2024 (I don't know if the entrance fee will be reinstated later). Taking advantage of the free admission period🆓, I brought my child here for a visit. The village is relatively large, and the tourism facilities are quite well-developed, making it very suitable for weekend self-driving tours🚗.
⭕️Suggested Tour
1️⃣The north side of the village mainly consists of residential houses🏠. The suggested walking route is: East Village Entrance - Guandi Temple - Shiyong Residence - Cai Zhu Yuan Da Wu Jian (the landlord's house) - Stone Mill - West Main Street - West Well - Jiawu Jiebao Courtyard - Shuangdian Courtyard - Bandamen - back to the east of the village.
2️⃣The south side of the village mainly consists of mountains⛰️. You can climb the mountains to see the whole view of Cuangdixia Village.
3️⃣Yixiantian, a film location, is located 1.5 km west of the village. It is recommended to drive there🚙.
✅Cuangdixia Village has preserved the architectural style and residential buildings🏡 of the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The blue bricks and stone slabs have a historical feel, and the unique character "cuan" in the village's name attracts many tourists.
✅At the east entrance of the village, there is a stone wall inscribed with "This is Cuangdixia," and on the back of the wall, there is a brief introduction to the village. Next to it is a free small children's playground🆓 with some simple game facilities such as slides🛝, balance beams, and seesaws, suitable for young children.
✅Cuangye Rongxizhai at the east entrance of the village is a cultural and creative shop, but it was not open when we went there. There are some introductions about the origin of the village at the entrance📝. To the left of the shop is the entrance to Guandi Temple on the mountain.
✅Guandi Temple was not open, but during the climb, you can overlook the whole village from the viewing platform on the hillside. The view is quite good.
✅The front hall of Cai Zhu Yuan Da Wu Jian has now been converted into a red culture exhibition room🖼️, while the rear hall retains the original appearance of the living room and bedroom🛏️, which you can visit.
✅There are many restaurants, cafes, and tea houses on the main street of the village☕️. Among them, Cuan Lai Cuan Wang and Cuan Xiang Tea House are very suitable for relaxing, drinking coffee, or having tea🍵.
✅If you like taking photos, there are several "cuan" character photo spots📸 in the village: the "This is Cuangdixia" stone wall and the "I ❤️ Cuangdixia" stone wall at the east entrance of the village, the "cuan" character and the "Think Open-mindedly" wall on the main street in the middle of the village, and the "cuan" character wall near the well water copper statue down the hill from Cai Zhu Yuan Da Wu Jian.
🔴Parking
When driving from the city, you will pass several parking lots🅿️ at the east of the village. In addition, there are parking lots inside the farmhouse restaurants near the village entrance, where you can park for free if you eat there🆓. There are also parking lots and a small number of roadside parking spaces on the west side of the village. Traffic will be heavy on weekends and holidays.
⭕️Dining
Stove-cooked fish🐟, local tofu, stewed chicken🐓, and cured meat are all local specialties, so you can try them. Prices are generally slightly higher💰, close to those in the city.
🔴Other
It takes about 2-3 hours to visit the village. You can arrange to visit Lingshui Juren Village and Liulichu Village together.
