Exploring Western Beijing | Nanshiyang Grand Canyon Forest Park 🌳
👫 A hidden gem in Beijing—Nanshiyang Grand Canyon Forest Park.
📍 Address: 20 km northwest of Matao Village, Yanchi Town, Mentougou District, Beijing.
🌄 About the attraction: This natural wonder, sculpted over millions of years, features crisscrossing canyons and jagged rocks. It combines mountains, canyons, unique peaks, strange rocks, forests, and pools. Stepping inside feels like traveling back to ancient times, with its primitive ecological landscape that will leave you in awe. The air quality is exceptional, every breath filled with negative oxygen ions, making it an ideal escape for city dwellers seeking tranquility and fresh air.
📸 Must-see spots:
👉 Tianwang Tower: Rising from the ground like a giant guarding the canyon, it offers stunning views from different angles. Its majestic form, combined with the surrounding mountains and rivers, creates a picturesque scene, especially breathtaking during sunset.
👉 One Canyon, Nine Valleys: Nine valleys wind through the park, each with its own unique charm. Stroll along the paths, enjoying the ever-changing scenery, and experience the deep tranquility of the canyon. Sunlight filters through the valley, creating a dreamy, dappled light effect.
🚌 Transportation: Driving is recommended. Navigate to "Nanshiyang Grand Canyon Forest Park." The drive from downtown Beijing takes about 2-3 hours. The scenery along the way is beautiful, with plenty of opportunities to stop and admire the views. By public transport, take bus 892 to Yanchi Station, then take a taxi to the park. However, buses are infrequent, so be mindful of the return trip schedule.
🎈 Tips for visiting: Plan for 6-8 hours. After entering the park in the morning, head straight to Tianwang Tower for photos, then follow the main road deeper into the canyon. Bring some light snacks and water, as there are few supply points inside the canyon.
🛏 Accommodation: For an in-depth experience, stay at a farmhouse near the scenic area, such as those in Matao Village, where you can enjoy home-cooked meals and sleep on a heated brick bed (kang). Prices range from CNY 100-200 per person. For more comfortable accommodations, return to the city center, where Mentougou District offers a wide selection of hotels.
📌 Other tips: The temperature inside the park can vary significantly, so bring a jacket. The mountain roads are rugged, so wear comfortable athletic shoes. Protect the environment by taking your trash with you and help preserve the beauty of this place. Trust me, a trip here is definitely worth it. Plan your visit now!
