Mutianyu Great Wall — Almost All to Ourselves 🇨🇳🏯

Visiting the Great Wall was one of the absolute highlights of our trip to Beijing. We chose the Mutianyu section and went there with a private guide, who drove us in his comfortable, air-conditioned car — no transfers, no stress, just smooth travel 🚗💨

We arrived at the wall around 4 PM, and it turned out to be the perfect time.
There were no lines at all — not at the entrance, not for the shuttle bus, not for the cable car. And once we got on the Wall itself, it was nearly empty.
It felt like we had it all to ourselves 🧡 We had plenty of time (and space!) to take beautiful photos in the soft afternoon light 📸✨

Before the cable car, there’s a small tourist street with souvenir shops and snack places — even Pizza Hut and Burger King.
The walk to the actual cable car station takes about 10–15 minutes and includes lots of stairs — so if you’re visiting with kids, don’t bring a stroller.

Our guide had pre-booked the tickets and advised us to take the closed cable car, since rain was in the forecast. We went with it to be safe — but in the end, the weather was sunny and clear, and the open cable car would have been much more fun and scenic 🌄 Oh well — next time!

The Wall itself is truly massive and majestic. In summer, everything is lush and green, and the mountain views are incredible. Despite the heat, a light breeze made it easier to walk and climb the steps.

On the way back, we grabbed a quick bite at Burger King and headed back to Beijing — tired but very happy.

💡 Tips:
– Visit in the late afternoon for softer light and fewer people
– Book tickets in advance, especially if going with a guide
– The area has souvenir shops, snacks, drinks, and restrooms
– If weather allows, choose the open cable car — it’s more scenic
– There are lots of stairs — wear comfy shoes
– Shuttle buses are air-conditioned and comfortable
