Pictures 1-2 cover over 20 autumn viewing locations in Beijing. This is a document compiled together with netizens and shared publicly. Live photos are updated daily, authentic and unfiltered.
Based on observations this week, 11 places have been selected as the first batch of autumn viewing spots. The main focus is on white ash trees, with the best viewing period being the last 4 days. The latest viewing might last until next weekend. This is just the vanguard of Beijing’s autumn viewing.
Ginkgo trees are expected to start turning yellow only by the weekend after next; they are still green now. The best viewing period is the first week of November. These are the main force of Beijing’s autumn viewing.
As for Beijing’s red leaves, mainly from the Chinese sumac, they will peak around mid-November. Xiangshan and Pofengling are the places for that.
Back to the main topic, which places can you visit this weekend (October 18-19)? Here are the selected spots and their predicted viewing times. All photos were taken in the past two days, authentic and unfiltered.
1. Wusi Street: Pictures 3-4
The most popular, the most crowded, great for capturing the atmosphere, progress 80%
Best viewing period: October 18-22
2. East Tsinghua Road: Pictures 5-6
Less crowded, good for street shots, progress 85%
Best viewing period: October 18-22
Highly recommended. Navigate to "South Gate 2 of Beijing Forestry University." There is a pedestrian bridge nearby, which is the best viewing spot.

Less crowded, good for small paths, progress 75%
Best viewing period: October 18-24
Typical leaves are falling before turning yellow.
4. Old Summer Palace (Yuanmingyuan): Picture 8
Crowded, features a nearby pond, beautiful, progress 75%
Best viewing period: October 18-24
Leaves are also falling, some trees are bare.
5. North Luogu Alley: Picture 9
Moderate crowd, possibly more on weekends. The Caishen Temple at the alley entrance is fully yellow, but further inside it’s not very yellow yet, progress 50%
Best viewing period: October 18-25
Might still be good to see next weekend.
6. Olympic Forest Park - North Garden: Picture 10
View white ash, pink muhly grass, sunflowers
More locals here

7. Lao She Memorial Hall: Picture 11
See persimmons, very close to Wusi Street, reservation required
Gone after October 26
8. Around Dongsi: Pictures 12-13
Many alleys, with Shisantiao and Xinsi alleys being the best
Many trees are still green, probably good to see next weekend as well.
9. Dong Buyaqiao Alley: Picture 14
Next to Nanluoguxiang, not crowded
Two trees: one white ash, one ginkgo
White ash is not very yellow yet, among the least yellow in Beijing
Most likely fully yellow by next weekend, progress 45%
Best viewing period: October 18-28
10. Agricultural Exhibition Center: Pictures 15-16
White ash trees on both sides of the parking lot, not many
No need to come specifically
Ginkgo still green, but I really like picture 16
11. Ritan Park, see the chrysanthemum exhibition, very beautiful, free
Weather and clothing
As shown in picture 17, Sunday’s low is 1°C
Today at the Summer Palace (about 2°C colder than downtown), people’s clothing (picture 18)
For reference: I wore a sweatshirt + a shell jacket, no thermal pants or sweater. At 8 PM, walking outside, my hands and legs felt cold.
