If you want to shoot autumn-themed photos in Beijing, don’t just focus on the crowded popular spots! The Yuanbao Maples in the Lion Forest of Yuanmingyuan have reached their peak viewing period. Sunlight filters through the branches, weaving red, yellow, and orange into a brilliant tapestry. No filter needed—every shot is a natural autumn wallpaper.
Here, you’ll find not only vast maple groves but also scenic lake views, mandarin ducks, and reeds, creating rich layers that far surpass the photo effects of the few Yuanbao Maples in Ditan Park. More importantly, compared to the ginkgo avenue in Yuanmingyuan and the overcrowded Ditan Park, the Lion Forest has fewer visitors, allowing you to comfortably shoot portraits without worrying about strangers in your frame.
If you want to check out another spot nearby, the ginkgo avenue in Yuanmingyuan is also worth a visit—although it lacks the red walls and ancient buildings, the open space and lighter crowds compared to Ditan Park let you capture more expansive ginkgo scenes. While strolling by the lake, you might also encounter elegant black swans, adding a delightful surprise to your trip.
📍 Address: Inside Yuanmingyuan Park (walk 400 meters from the East Gate to reach the Lion Forest)
💳 Ticket: 10 RMB
📅 Best shooting time: From November 1, 2025, the following week is the best viewing period
