The best shrimp tempura rice bowl restaurant I visited during my trip to Biei, Japan: Junpei

#JapanTravel

❤️Junpei❤️ is a famous ebi-don restaurant that opened in Biei in 1977. Here, 'ebi (えび)' means shrimp, and 'don (どん)' means 'donburi (どんぶり)', a Japanese rice bowl. Donburi is said to have originated from a dish called hohan (芳飯) in the Muromachi period, where five kinds of food were served on top of rice. It is a dish where rice and various ingredients are placed on a large bowl and eaten, and it is different from Korean rice bowls. The shrimp tempura here is especially crispy and delicious. Usually, when making batter for tempura, it is basic to coat it with flour, egg, and breadcrumbs and fry it, but at this time, restaurants that make tempura properly make their own breadcrumbs. It is a place where there are always many customers and long lines, so reservations are not possible, so if you want to eat here, you should go a little early.
