A trip to Boluo County: exploring the poetry and leisure among mountains and rivers
"The peach and plum trees in the city are worried about wind and rain, while spring is here with shepherd's purse blooming by the stream." The hustle and bustle of the city often makes us forget the true nature of life. On a sunny weekend, I packed my bags and headed for Boluo, Huizhou, embarking on a wonderful journey to embrace nature and converse with history.
The first stop is Luofu Mountain, a national scenic spot and national 5A-level tourist attraction. It has been revered as a fairy mountain since the Qin and Han Dynasties, and Sima Qian called it "Yueyue". Entering the scenic area, you will see 432 rolling peaks and more than 980 waterfalls and springs scattered among them. Climbing along the winding mountain road, the fresh air hits your face and all your fatigue is swept away. On the way, you will come across 18 caves and 72 stone chambers. When you climb to the top and look out, you will see lush mountains, scattered villages, and curling smoke. It makes you feel heroic, "I will climb to the top of the mountain and overlook all the other mountains."
Leaving Luofu Mountain, I came to Lanmen Rural Health and Ecological Tourism Area. Hidden in the southwestern foot of Luofu Mountain, it has a forest coverage rate of nearly 100% and extremely high content of negative oxygen ions. Strolling through the area, you will see picturesque mountains and clear waters, singing birds and blooming flowers. Tourists can experience farming in the fields, enjoy slowing down time and return to the most authentic life.
As night fell, I tasted Hakka cuisine and experienced Hakka culture at Qingshui Lake Farm. The farm is a national AAA-level scenic spot, surrounded by mountains, and the guest rooms are integrated with nature. At the traditional Hakka winery, I experienced winemaking myself and felt the Hakka people’s wisdom and love for life. Tasting the kiln chicken and Shanshui tofu pudding, the unique food culture blooms on the tip of your tongue.
The next day, I went to Dadong Mountain Camp in Luocun Village, Changning Town. The camp covers an area of 62 acres and relies on the "Around Luofu Mountain" rural revitalization demonstration zone and the Xuanbi Lake Greenway, integrating camping, picking, fishing, cycling, and food markets. I rented a bicycle and rode along the lake. The breeze was blowing on my face and the lake was sparkling. Some people are fishing quietly by the lake, the taste bud market in the camp is bustling, and special snacks such as Mapi meatballs are unforgettable.
This trip to Boluo is a feast for the senses. I enjoyed the beautiful scenery, experienced Hakka culture and rural life, and tasted delicious food. Everything here fascinates me and gives me a deeper understanding of traveling: traveling is not just about seeing the scenery, but also a spiritual practice of finding oneself and feeling the beauty. The small town of Boluo is waiting for more people to unveil its veil and feel its unique charm.
