Borobudur is an architectural marvel back when it was built in the 9th century. But it’s also as mind bogglingly impressive today. It’s constructed with over 2 million blocks of stone and has 9 layers. With the bottom layer being a square and each subsequent layer being rounder until it the last circular layer at the very top. On top of that, with its immense significance in buddhist history, it’s unsurprising why it’s a UNESCO site!

Some notes for when you travel here:
1. A park has been built around this temple, so it’s not one of those structures that require you to drive deep into rural areas
2. You can definitely come here yourself without a guide, but given how history rich this place is it’d be more enjoyable to be here with one
3. There are 2 different tickets: One to enter the borobudur park, and the other to enter the temple itself
