📍London → Moreton-in-Marsh (via National Rail)
🗓️ Visited in spring – blooming gardens, golden light, and peaceful villages
Whenever I need to breathe, slow down, and reset, I take the train from London Paddington to Moreton-in-Marsh — a direct ride into the heart of the Cotswolds in just under 1 hour 40 minutes. It’s the start of one of my favourite slow-travel adventures.
From Moreton-in-Marsh station, you’re instantly surrounded by classic honey-coloured cottages and wide village greens. I love starting with a coffee and pastry from a local bakery before either wandering on foot or catching a local bus or cab to nearby villages like Stow-on-the-Wold, Bourton-on-the-Water, or Broadway.
Each stop feels like a postcard: flower-filled windowsills, cosy pubs, old bookshops, and sheep-dotted hills in every direction. There’s always time for a cream tea, a peek into antique shops, and a quiet walk along the Cotswold Way.
It’s a route that proves you don’t need a car to enjoy the English countryside — just a good pair of shoes and a railcard.

My Route Tips:
🚆 Trains from London Paddington to Moreton-in-Marsh run hourly
🚌 Local buses connect you to nearby villages, or take a short taxi
🥾 Pack comfortable shoes for gentle walks or longer rambles
☕ Great places for tea: The Old Bakery (Stow), Bakery on the Water (Bourton)
