Bourton on the Water is a charming little village located in the Cotswolds in southwestern England. It takes only about two hours by train from London to reach this picturesque destination, often referred to as the "fairy tale village" of England. While there are several other small towns nearby that you can explore together, we opted for Bourton on the Water as it’s more convenient to get there by bus if you don’t have a driver’s license. From Moreton-in-Marsh train station, you’ll find the bus stop right outside. Be sure to check the bus schedule in advance, as buses run only once an hour, which can be quite infrequent.
Upon arriving in Bourton on the Water, the first impression is reminiscent of Giethoorn in the Netherlands. The village is surrounded by a beautiful lake, and within the village, you’ll find preserved aristocratic mansions, ancient stone bridges, and quaint wooden cottages. The lakeside is lined with trees, creating a romantic pastoral landscape that looks like a stunning painting. The village also boasts numerous restaurants and craft shops, making it a perfect spot to relax and unwind if you’re feeling weary of London’s bustling city life.
