limestone dolomite

#hellohalloween

The Apuan Alps formed from sea sediments that became hardened over time into limestone, dolomite, sandstone, and shale. Intense pressure around 25 million years ago transformed much of this limestone into the finely crystallized marble for which the region is known.
Carrara marble: The extraction of this white marble has been central to the local economy since Roman times and was famously used by Renaissance artists like Michelangelo and Canova.
