Hemu: Kanas' Backyard Garden, an Ancient Village Amidst Birch Forests

After breakfast in Burqin County, head to the Kanas Scenic Area. Once enchanted by Kanas' green mountains, grasslands, and white clouds, it’s already midday in Xinjiang (around 5 or 6 PM), and many choose to stay overnight in nearby Hemu Village.

In early summer, Hemu Village hides among mountains and birch trees—a wooden cottage settlement dotted across a sea of green. Skip the official viewing platform and instead climb the grasslands north of the village for a panoramic view. Scattered wildflowers on the slopes invite you to lie back, gaze at the drifting clouds, and listen to the whispers of the birch forest.

Visit Hemu in winter, and it transforms into a fairytale village—snow blankets the world, with only the chimneys of small wooden cabins hinting at human warmth.
