Gamcheon Culture Village's history dates back to the 1950s, when it served as a refugee settlement during the Korean War. Over the years, this once impoverished area has transformed into a vibrant community, renowned for its colorful houses, artistic murals, and creative installations. The village's revitalization began in 2009, when local artists and residents started decorating the area with murals and art projects, turning it into an open-air museum.
Nestled at the foot of a mountain, Gamcheon Culture Village is a terraced settlement of houses, often referred to as "Busan's Machu Picchu" for its unique beauty.
While the cultural village is a living space for local residents and open to visitors year-round, guests are kindly reminded to observe order and maintain quiet during their visit.
