The Han and Wei Luoyang City Ruins are the remains of the capitals of the Eastern Han, Cao Wei, Western Jin, and Northern Wei dynasties. Located east of the Sui and Tang Luoyang City, they are a World Cultural Heritage site and the eastern starting point of the Silk Road. According to historical records, in 166 AD, the Roman Emperor Antonius sent envoys to the Han and Wei Luoyang City to pay homage to Emperor Huan of Han. This marked the first direct contact between Rome and China, marking the beginning of direct communication between the easternmost and westernmost reaches of the Silk Road. The ruins are located approximately 15 kilometers east of present-day Luoyang City, Henan Province.
The Roman Empire had only four exchanges with ancient China, three of which took place in the ancient city of Luoyang during the Han and Wei dynasties.
