Built in 1972 , the Shigu Mountain Archway, located within the Gushan Scenic Area, is where visitors converge to enter the mountain gate. However, a strange thing is that even after entering the mountain gate, whether on foot, by car, or by cable car, the grand Yongquan Temple is nowhere to be seen. The temple is so hidden, it's often said , " Enter the mountain but don't see the temple, and enter the temple but don't see the mountain . "
The unique layout of Yongquan Temple has given rise to an intriguing folk legend: In ancient times, Yongquan Temple and Xichan Temple were both major Fujian temples, similar in scale and influence, and ranked equally. However, one flourished and the other declined in terms of patronage. A folk saying goes, " The rise of Gushan led to the decline of Xichan, while the rise of Xichan led to the decline of Gushan . "
