Reflecting on the Meaning of Democracy at a Historical Site

The moment I stepped into Democracy Park, I immediately realized that this was no ordinary park. Statues and records commemorating pivotal moments in South Korea's modern history, such as the April 19 Revolution, the May 18 Democratic Movement, and the June Democratic Uprising, are displayed throughout the park. At the Democracy Movement Memorial Hall, I was deeply moved by videos showcasing the courage and sacrifices of citizens during those times. Particularly, the space dedicated to honoring the victims allowed visitors to lay flowers and observe a moment of silent reflection, which filled me with a sense of reverence. I understood why not only Busan residents but also people from across the country visit this place. It reminded me of the preciousness of democracy and strengthened my resolve to carry forward its spirit.
