Memories and Encounters: In the Heart of History

Visiting the Democracy Park, I was filled with a mix of anticipation and excitement, knowing I was stepping into a space where the struggles of history are vividly alive. From the entrance, the sturdy sculptures stood tall, symbolizing the unwavering beliefs of those who fought to protect democracy. Walking along the trails, the lush greenery intertwined with the changing seasons added a sense of peace on one hand and solemnity on the other. Entering the Memorial Hall for Democratic Struggles, it was more than just viewing exhibits; I could deeply feel the hardships Korea endured and the dedication of its citizens that emerged from those times. Through archival materials and videos, I vividly experienced the shouts and tears of that era as if I had witnessed them firsthand. Observing the various monuments and lists of commemorated names, I felt profound gratitude for the extraordinary achievements of our ordinary neighbors. On my way out, seeing people from different generations sharing stories reminded me once again that democracy is a warm bridge connecting the past, present, and future.
