Located about a 15-minute taxi ride from downtown Cairo,
Muhammad Ali Mosque!
(Uber from the Hilton Hotel in the city costs less than 200 yen.)
You can enjoy the Arabian atmosphere.
The exterior of the mosque is beautiful, but the interior is simply stunning! The countless lanterns and the patterns on the ceiling were truly mystical.
[Sightseeing Points]
--
○ The mosque shown in the photo is the main attraction, but there are many other historical buildings, and it would take about half a day to explore them all.
Since I had other plans this time, I entered as soon as the gates opened, stopped by the main mosque and another building, and finished my tour in about two hours.
○ The mosque is located on a hill, so you can get a panoramic view of Cairo. You can even see the pyramids in the distance, so be sure to stop by!
[Notes] ---------
○ You must remove your shoes when entering the building.
However, because the floors were dirty, I bought disposable shoe covers for sale near the entrance.
→ Since you must remove your shoes at all buildings, not just mosques,
it's a good idea to keep them with you while sightseeing, even though they're inexpensive!
○ Purchase a ticket at the entrance and enter. There are few food and drink options available inside. There is a small convenience store at the entrance, but it was expensive, so I recommend bringing water and other items with you in advance.
