Zhejiang's Charming Fishing Village: A Feast for the Senses, Perfect for Food, Photos, and Beachcombing!

Autumn is the season of harvest and the ideal time for travel, with pleasant temperatures, breathtaking scenery, and delicious cuisine to enjoy amidst the charm and beauty!

So, the question arises: where should you go? Take my advice and visit Zhejiang's enchanting fishing village this autumn! It's a delightful experience where you can indulge in food, capture stunning photos, and enjoy beachcombing—truly fascinating for those interested!

Let me introduce you to Yu'ao Village in Zhejiang, originally known as Xiao'ao. This quaint fishing village is brimming with rustic charm, where generations of villagers have made their living by fishing. Nearby lies the sparkling East China Sea pasture, with fishing boats anchored in the emerald waters!

Moreover, Yu'ao Village enjoys a mild climate, warm in winter and cool in summer, with pleasant weather year-round. It's also well-connected by transportation, with Cangnan's coastal highway passing right by the village, making it just a 30-minute drive to Lingxi, Longgang, or Yuliao. If you love hiking, you can take the ancient trails northeast or northwest of the village, leading to Jinxiang or Kuoshan in about 90 minutes on foot. Additionally, the village offers extensive maritime transport options, allowing you to take boats to various coastal attractions—a delightful surprise!

Delving into history, we find that Yu'ao Village played a significant role during the Ming Dynasty. In 1569, Wang (Gong) built a fortress here to resist Japanese pirates, making it an outpost of the Jinxiang Garrison. The ancient beacon tower on Dayandun Hill in the southeast, a military communication facility from the Ming Dynasty, covers about 100 square meters and stands 7 meters tall. Remarkably well-preserved, it was listed as a cultural heritage site in Cangnan County in 1988.

Clearly, this fishing village is extraordinary!

Upon arrival, start by exploring the "Eight Ancient Wonders" [ancient fortress, ancient trees, ancient beacon tower, ancient city walls, ancient wells, ancient houses, ancient temples, and ancient trails]. Then, discover the banyan tree in front of the ruins of the Niangniang Temple—its main trunk hollow can fit ten children! Still lush after over 200 years, it stands in harmony with the ancient camphor tree in front of Yanhou Temple. Other highlights include the grand residences of the Guan and Weng families inside the ancient city, the ruins of an ancient temple northeast of the city, the foundations of houses on the opposite mountain, seashells beneath the white cliffs of Xishan, and captivating legends of "divine turtles," "dolphins," "wells," and "dragon wells"—all beckoning visitors to explore and ponder.

After sightseeing, focus on Yu'ao Village's three highlights: food, photography, and beachcombing!

First, the food: Generations of fishing expertise mean Yu'ao Village excels in seafood dishes and snacks, offering a variety of flavors. You might even stumble upon delicious turkey noodles or lean meatballs!

Second, photography: The village blends mountains, rivers, lakes, and sea, featuring not only the roaring ocean but also picturesque landscapes. Paired with the "Eight Ancient Wonders," every shot is postcard-perfect!

Third, beachcombing: While Yu'ao Village lacks sandy beaches, it offers rocky shores and tidal flats to explore. At low tide, it becomes a natural playground for beachcombing, where hermit crabs, sea snails, and mantis shrimp are easy to catch!

After experiencing it all, many will be captivated by Yu'ao Village's charm and fall in love with it. A self-drive tour is highly recommended—the coastal highway makes for a stunning drive!
