Mr. Kofi Annan is an old friend of China. Kind, upright, and dedicated to world peace throughout his life, Mr. Annan left a deep and friendly impression on the Chinese people. This portrait, housed in the Li Zijian Art Museum, was specially painted for UN Secretary-General Annan and has a story of friendly exchanges with China behind it. The painting was specially created in 1997 by Li Zijian, a Chinese artist residing in the United States, for then UN Secretary-General Annan, making him the first Asian Chinese artist to receive this honor. The original painting is now housed in the United Nations Headquarters building.
