Hunan Provincial Museum (Changsha)

#chinatravel

The main reason I went to the Hunan Provincial Museum was to see the Mawangdui Han Tombs, and they did not disappoint. The preserved body of Lady Dai, dating back over 2,000 years, is one of the most incredible archaeological finds I’ve ever seen. The museum does a great job of presenting the lifestyle, beliefs, and burial practices of the Han dynasty elite. Beyond the tombs, there are beautiful lacquerware pieces, silk paintings, and early manuscripts. It’s educational, fascinating, and surprisingly modern in its layout. If you’re in Changsha, don’t miss this museum—it’s a true window into ancient Chinese life.
