Taihu Ancient Town Travel Experience and Transportation Guide

Taihu Ancient Town is a newly built ancient architectural complex, but it is quite distinctive. The horse head walls of Huizhou architecture, the gatehouse, and the antique wood carvings on the buildings are full of charm. The lifelike Guanyin statue at the bottom of the Wanfo Pagoda is even more eye-catching. Although today is Sunday, when I visited during the day, there were some tourists on the main street at noon. Compared with my visit during the epidemic in the summer of 2022, there were many more people, but it was not very lively. There were few people in places a little further away from the main street. I turned around and looked, and many shops were vacant.
The Shengdao Warehouse next to the Wanfo Pagoda is surrounded by restaurants, and there are many tables by the water, but there are very few people dining during the day, and there are almost no diners. However, there are many people taking photos and checking in here. If you only visit the ancient town, you can walk through the main street in 1–2 hours.

It is said that the night is the highlight of Taihu Ancient Town. There are intangible cultural heritage iron flower performances and fireworks shows in the river near Shengdao Warehouse. At that time, the viewing positions in the waterfront restaurants will be very popular. The Fireworks Tower Hotel is built by the water, and the rooms facing the water should be able to enjoy the fireworks show and the intangible cultural heritage iron flower performance without leaving the house.

Transportation Guide: To go to Taihu Ancient Town from the urban area of Huzhou, take bus No. 4 at Chengtu Square next to Dongwu International to the Longzhimen Diamond Hotel, the terminal station. The journey takes 30–40 minutes. After getting off the bus, walk 700–800m to reach the destination. For the return trip, take bus No. 4 at the Longzhimen Station, the starting station, to return to the urban area of Huzhou, which is convenient and fast.
