Walking through the old town of Chania was one of the highlights of being there. The narrow streets twist and turn, lined with colorful buildings that mix Venetian, Ottoman, and Cretan influences. Many of them are restored, some a little crumbling, but together they create a really atmospheric backdrop.
There are plenty of small shops selling local products, from olive oil and honey to handmade leather goods. Mixed in between are cafés and tavernas with tables spilling out onto the cobblestones, giving the streets a lively but relaxed feel.
Every so often, you stumble across bits of history — old walls, arches, and ruins tucked right into the middle of the town. It makes wandering around feel like a little adventure, with something different waiting around each corner.
