When visiting Chaozhou, Guangji Bridge is a must-see attraction. It is one of China's Four Great Ancient Bridges, alongside Zhaozhou Bridge, Luoyang Bridge, and Lugou Bridge.
Spanning the Han River, Guangji Bridge features stone piers on both ends, with exquisite pavilions and towers built atop them. The middle section is connected by 18 ancient floating bridges. Due to navigation needs, the floating bridges are retracted around 5:30 PM daily to allow cargo ships to pass through the river. This creates the unique and famous "dismantling the bridge after crossing" scene.
Although the site is not very large, the bridge has pavilions where visitors can rest. Some of these pavilions showcase local crafts and products, such as wood carvings. Walking across the bridge, listening to its historical stories, and admiring the traditional design is a delightful experience.
The attraction requires an entrance fee. If you plan to explore other sights in Chaozhou's ancient city, purchasing a combined ticket can be more cost-effective.
