Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding

Wow! This is such an amazing facility for the preservation of the giant pandas. It offers a unique opportunity to see a large number of pandas up close in a well-maintained environment, learn about their conservation efforts, and witness their playful behavior; however, be prepared for crowds and plan to go early to avoid the rush.

The Chengdu Panda Research Base is renowned for having one of the largest captive panda populations in the world, allowing you to see a variety of pandas at different ages and stages. We saw young playful ones through adults.

Beyond just viewing pandas, the research base provides information about their conservation status, breeding programs, and the challenges they face in the wild.

We were really impressed by how beautiful and well organized the large facility is. The panda enclosures are designed to mimic their natural environment, creating a comfortable viewing experience.

One potential downside is we were told that the popularity of the site can lead to very large crowds during peak seasons. We fortunately visited in late April , and while it was busy, the crowds were manageable.

My kids also appreciated the food court & restrooms with western style sit down toilets.
And be sure to visit the souvenir shop for some adorable keepsakes.
