🏙️ South of Chengdu lies the bustling and modern High-Tech Zone, where the Xiaoji River has flowed from the Qing Dynasty 300 years ago into the present day, connecting Tixiang Temple Water Street. This area weaves together the vibrant tapestry of Chengdu's urban life, blending "Buddhist pagodas and temples, Zen-like tranquility, charming alleys and courtyards, and lively waterfront scenes." Here, half is the Zen-inspired Tixiang Temple, and half is the bustling Water Street, creating a uniquely Chengdu "chill vibe."
🙋 How to Enjoy:
1️⃣ Take a leisurely stroll to explore the centuries-old Tixiang Temple, wander through the green-tiled streets, and soak up the lively atmosphere of the trendy teahouses, savoring Chengdu's slow-paced lifestyle.
2️⃣ Tixiang Temple, a historic Buddhist nunnery, features three grand halls and surrounding gardens. With its red walls and green tiles, the temple is majestic and awe-inspiring, especially the iron-cast statue of Sakyamuni in the main hall. Nestled amidst the city's concrete jungle, it remains a place of constant devotion and profound Zen. Currently, some temple buildings are under renovation, so visitor areas are limited—just 30 minutes to explore.
3️⃣ Step out of Tixiang Temple, and you’ll find yourself in Water Street. Inspired by the temple, this park-like commercial district blends traditional Tianfu cultural elements—courtyards, ancient pagodas, bridges, archways, and pavilions—with modern glass facades amid gray bricks and tiles.
4️⃣ Passing through the landmark stone archway inscribed with "Tixiang Temple Water Street" in golden characters, you’ll reach the most vibrant spot: Chenjin Teahouse.
5️⃣ Adjacent to the ancient temple and surrounded by greenery, the teahouse offers a serene escape despite its bustling location.
6️⃣ Classic Chengdu teahouse elements like open-air seating, an old opera stage, and traditional covered-bowl tea are all here. Chenjin Teahouse welcomes guests from early morning, and on sunny days, every seat in its spacious courtyard is taken.
7️⃣ This season, the hydrangeas in the area are in full bloom, making it a perfect spot for photos.
🎫 Admission: Free.
📍 Location: Tixiang Temple Water Street, Chengdu High-Tech Zone. A 10-minute walk from Exit C of "Jincheng Lake Station" on Metro Line 5. Driving and parking are convenient, though street parking is pricey—starting at 8 yuan.
