“Wat Sri Suphan” is one of the prominent tourist attractions in Chiang Mai Province, famous for “the world’s first silver Ubosot”. It is a new Ubosot that has been renovated from the original Ubosot that has deteriorated over time. The current silver Ubosot was built by the villagers. Wat Sri Suphan is one of the oldest temples in Chiang Mai Province, over 500 years old. It was built in 2043 by King Philokpanadda Thirat or Phra Mueang Kaew, the King of Chiang Mai, and Queen Siriyaswadi, the Queen Mother. They ordered a minister named Chao Muen Luang Cha Kham to build a temple called “Wat Sri Suphan Aram”, later shortened to “Wat Sri Suphan”.
