Wat Sri Suphan, Chiang Mai Province

Go on a trip, take a trip to Wat Sri Suphan, "The world's first silver chapel", Chiang Mai Province.

Wat Sri Suphan was built during the reign of King Mueang Kaew, the king of the Mangrai Dynasty. His Majesty ordered the enshrining of Phra Chao Chet Tue or Phra Phuttha Patiharn in 2043 or around 522 years ago. Then, he built the Phra Wihan Borommathat Chedi and the chapel. Later, in 2052, he held the ceremony of tying the boundary of the chapel and enshrined Phra Chao Chet Tue as the principal Buddha image in the chapel until today.

The silver chapel has a brick and mortar structure and Lanna architectural style. It uses pure silver as decoration in important parts and uses aluminum instead of silver on the exterior around the chapel. Created by the Lanna handicraft group, Wat Sri Suphan, since 2004. The total construction period of this silver chapel was 12 years.
