Chiang Mai's Small Temples - Wat Phra Kaew

Chiang Mai's Small Temples - Wat Phra Kaew
Gudao Temple is located next to the Winter Festival Square in the north of the city. There are many temples in the temple.
The various gourd towers, inlaid with porcelain tiles, are quite strange. Legend has it that the Burmese army failed to capture Chiang Mai despite repeated attacks. The Burmese and the King of Chiang Mai agreed to have a competition to build a pagoda, and whoever finished first would win. The Chiang Mai army used a clever trick to shape the tower out of bamboo, wood and cloth, and painted the outside with colors to make it very realistic. They built it faster than the Burmese. The Burmese were deceived and so they kept their promise and withdrew their troops. Later, the military and civilians of Chiang Mai worked together to build a new pagoda, which is five stories high and each story is shaped like a watermelon, and is transliterated as Gudao Temple.
