Introducing Xinyuan
Xinyuan County is located in the northwestern Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, within the Ili Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture. Surrounded by mountains on three sides, it lies at the northern foot of the Tianshan Mountains and the eastern end of the Ili River Valley. It lies in the heart of the Gongnaisi Grassland, east of the Xinjiang Ili River Valley, known as the "South of the Yangtze River Beyond the Great Wall." The county boasts one of the world's four largest river valley grasslands, the Gongnaisi Grassland, nestled amidst mountains and boasting vast grasslands and breathtaking scenery. Xinyuan County was a key gateway along the ancient Silk Road into Ili. Numerous cultural relics and historical sites remain within the county, offering a wealth of cultural attractions. These include the ruins of an ancient castle left behind by Chagatai Khan, the third son of Genghis Khan, during his western expeditions during the Yuan Dynasty; ruins of a Wusun garrison fortress; ancient Wusun tombs; ancient generals' platforms; ancient post stations; and grassland stone figures.
