Wat Suan Dok is a temple that houses the stupas of northern Thai royalty. This temple was renovated and maintained by Princess Dara Rasmi, making it a significant representation of northern Thai nobility.
The temple grounds are shaded by large trees, creating a serene atmosphere. It is home to Phra Chao Kao Tu, a revered Buddha image considered a symbol of Chiang Mai. Additionally, the temple features a traditional Lanna-style viharn (sanctuary) with a sloping roof. Upon entering the viharn, visitors will notice its unique design—it is not constructed with typical cement walls but has an open structure with the roof sloping almost to the ground. This design allows for a cool and airy interior, even during the hot summer months.
If you have the chance to visit Chiang Mai, Wat Suan Dok is definitely a temple you shouldn't miss.
