Suan Dok Temple, Chiang Rai Province

#RegisterAugustHotelTester2025

Built in 1371, this is a brief history of Chiang Mai. We often refer to this area as Lanna-style architecture, as northern Thailand was originally part of the Lanna Kingdom. Suan Dok means "garden," as this area was originally used as a royal garden. As you enter the gate, you'll be greeted by a magnificent golden bell-shaped chedi. This bell-shaped chedi commemorates the monk Sumana Thera. Nearby are many small white pagodas, both beautiful and perfect for photos in Thai attire.

The main temple hall is enormous, and the entrance fee for foreigners is 20 baht. Here you'll find statues of deceased monks and two massive Buddha statues, one standing and one seated. They're truly magnificent.
