Wat Chedi Luang is an ancient and historically significant temple in Chiang Mai Province and a center of faith.

It was built during the reign of King Saen Mueang Ma, the seventh king of the Mangrai Dynasty.

It once housed the Emerald Buddha, Thailand's most revered Buddha image.

The large Chedi Luang, once the tallest in ancient times, was damaged in an earthquake in 1545, causing its spire to collapse, leaving only half of the structure.

The temple also houses the Inthakin Pillar, a sacred landmark of Chiang Mai.
