Introducing Jianou Wanmulin
Wanmulin is located in Fangdao, Jianou City, northern Fujian Province, covering an area of 1,600 mu. It is an artificially planted ancient forest with a history of protection and reproduction of 660 years. It is one of my country's key nature reserves and enjoys the reputation of "Central Subtropical Forest Museum".
This artificial forest was created by Yang Daqing, a local celebrity in the late Yuan Dynasty. According to historical records, Yang Daqing came from a wealthy family. People were living in dire straits at that time. Yang Daqing used the method of "work-for-relief and tree-planting for disaster relief" to help the victims. In order not to put pressure on the victims, he used the name of "plant a tree and give a bucket of rice" to provide relief to the victims, and thus the Wanmulin was formed.
The Wanmu Forest boasts a dense subtropical forest. Tall, majestic spruce trees reach the sky, while ancient vines as thick as bowls entwine and dangle. Camphor and nanmu trees are particularly abundant in the forest. The largest, a yellow camphor tree, reaches a diameter at breast height of 181 centimeters, stands 34 meters tall, and is over 600 years old. Other rare and precious tree species include cinnamon, sightseeing wood, catalpa, southern yew, and western Hubei red bean trees.
