Wat Nong Charin, is an ancient temple
of great importance in Chiang Mai.
It's over 500 years old.
● "Lin" in Northern Thai means water gutter.
Chet Lin refers to seven water gutterings.
The lins are made of gold
used for the Buddha Abhiseka ceremony,
by pouring Buddha Abhiseka water
from a golden conch shell
through the seven lins
for the kings of the Mangrai Dynasty
before ascending to the throne.
● Inside the temple is a large pond.
It's still in excellent condition.
- There's a bamboo bridge decorated with Lanna lanterns.
- There's a statue of a four-eared, five-eyed insect, a legendary Lanna creature
with four ears and five eyes that feeds on red coals.
