Phra That Chedi Wat Chompoo, the twin of Phra That Doi Suthep

Wat Chompoo is an ancient temple in Chiang Mai that is over 600 years old. Inside the temple, there is a chedi that is considered to be a twin of Phra That Doi Suthep. According to history, King Kue, King Rama VI of Lanna Thai, built Phra Borommathat Doi Suthep. However, later, his mother, "Phra Nang Phimpha Devi", thought that the mountain was too high for the elderly to climb up and worship. Therefore, she ordered the construction of a chedi with the temple, named "Wat Mai Phimpha". Although they are similar, the tops of the two chedis are different: Phra Borommathat Chedi Suthep has a 5-tiered umbrella, while Phra That Mai Phimpha has a 7-tiered umbrella. These chedis are for those who cannot climb up to worship the chedi on the mountain and worship these twin chedis instead, which is still the case today.

Wat Chompoo is located in Tambon Chang Moi. It is a temple hidden in the community and is not on the main road, so there are not many tourists. You can visit its beauty every day.
