Phra Chao Lan Thong, Wat Phra Kaew, Chiang Rai
đ.. Wat Phra Kaew is a historically significant temple in Chiang Rai Province, but there is no record of its construction history.
đī¸.. Originally named Wat Pa Ya or Wat Pa Yia (written in Pali as Nyarakkhwanaram) because there were many Yia trees growing inside the original temple, which are native bamboo species.
đ.. The temple's ordination hall is in the Chiang Saen style, with a low base and a low sloping roof. Inside is the principal Buddha image, Phra Chao Lan Thong.
đ¸.. Phra Chao Lan Thong is a bronze Buddha image in the Mara-Vijaya posture, sitting cross-legged. It is considered the largest and most beautiful Buddha image in the Pala art style in Thailand.
đī¸.. Open daily from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
