Wat Phra That Pha Ngao, Chiang Saen District

Wat Phra That Pha Ngao, located in Chiang Saen District, Chiang Rai Province, is situated on the western bank of the Mekong River, directly opposite Laos. It is in Sop Kham Village, Wiang Subdistrict.

The history of the temple: The name of the temple comes from Phra That Pha Ngao, which is located on a large rock. The term 'Pha Ngao' refers to the shadow of the rock. This large rock is shaped like a pagoda, and when sunlight passes through it, it casts a large shadow. Hence, locals named it Phra That Pha Ngao. In the past, the temple was originally called Wat Sop Kham. The temple is spacious, peaceful, and surrounded by many trees, making it a beautiful and serene place.
