Alishan Station is located in Alishan National Forest Recreation Area, Alishan Township, Chiayi County. Alishan Station is the terminus of the Alishan Forest Railway and the starting point of the Alishan branch lines Zhushan Line, Zhuoping Line and Shenmu Line. The Alishan Railway can be said to have had a tragic fate. It encountered several typhoons, forest collapses and damage to the railway. After 15 years of restoration, the entire line will be reopened on July 6, 2024. Tourists will be able to take the train directly from Chiayi Station to Alishan Station. The 921 Earthquake in 1999 caused the then new Alishan Station to become a dangerous building and was closed. A new station was then rebuilt on the original site and officially completed and reopened in September 2007.
