Lake Shikotsu is located southwest of Chitose City, Hokkaido, Japan. It is a caldera lake formed by volcanic activity 40,000 years ago. Because its water never freezes all year round, it is called the "unfrozen lake". The lake covers an area of 39 square kilometers and has a maximum water depth of more than 360 meters. It is one of the deepest lakes in Japan and one of the lakes with the cleanest water quality in the country. Lake Shikotsu is surrounded by mountains and has beautiful scenery. It belongs to the Shikotsu-Toya National Park and is a famous natural scenic spot in Hokkaido.
It is recommended that if you want to come to Lake Shikotsu, you can take a bus from the airport domestic line. It will be easier to get a seat from the domestic line, otherwise it will take a while to get there.
