[Tokyo/Chofu] Recommended for a little trip: Jindaiji

Jindaiji, located in Chofu City, Tokyo, is a historic temple founded in 733 during the Nara period. It is considered the second oldest Buddhist temple in Tokyo, after Sensoji Temple.
The temple grounds are rich in nature, lined with trees that are hundreds of years old. You can enjoy the seasonal scenery such as cherry blossoms in spring and autumn leaves, making it a healing space. The charming mountain gate, main hall, and walking paths around the pond are perfect for those who want to quietly calm their minds.

When you think of Jindaiji, you can’t miss the famous "Jindaiji soba." The hand-made soba noodles made with spring water have a smooth texture and are a must-try after your visit. The area around the temple is lined with unique soba restaurants, making it fun to sample different places.

Another highlight is the somewhat famous "fortune slips that often show bad luck." Jindaiji’s omikuji have a traditional ratio of good and bad fortunes, and it is said that you are more likely to get a "bad luck" slip here than at many modern temples and shrines. However, there’s no need to feel down if you get a bad fortune. Taking it as an opportunity to reflect on your current state and move forward in a better direction might lighten your heart.

Every March, the "Daruma Market" is held, attracting many visitors who come to buy daruma dolls for making wishes.
