🚄 Just 1 Hour from Kunming
Yiren (Yi‑Ren) Ancient Town in Chuxiong (楚雄彝人古镇) was a lovely surprise — calm, charming, and a refreshing escape from the city. We walked through quiet alleys, crossed beautiful stone bridges, and browsed unique local shops that gave us an authentic feel for local life.
There weren’t many tourists when we visited — it felt peaceful and genuine. We stopped at a small teahouse and ended up purchasing Pu’er tea as a souvenir. We also discovered a shop selling dried Yunnan mushrooms and seasoning — a great pick for foodie gifts.
A little archery game added a fun touch to the visit.
🛤️ How to Get There from Kunming
trains run from both Kunming South Station (昆明南站) and Kunming Railway Station (昆明站) to Chuxiong Railway Station (楚雄站), which is on the Kunming–Chuxiong–Dali line .
- From Kunming Railway Station, the ride is about 1 hour.
- From Kunming South Station, it’s around 1.5 hours .
Then, a Didi ride (15–20 minutes) brought us straight to the entrance of the ancient town. Very convenient for a half- or full-day trip.
💡 Travel Tips:
- We went around noon on a weekday and it was very quiet almost too quiet. For more open shops and local life, weekends or late afternoons might be better.
- Shops usually open around 10 AM, but not all are open every day.
- Bring a translation app if you don’t speak Chinese — it helps when shopping or asking for directions.
