When traveling to Datong, the top choice is Yungang Grottoes, followed by Huayan Temple, then Shanhuasi Temple, and fourth is the Confucian Temple.
Compared to the crowded Yungang Grottoes and the bustling Huayan and Shanhuasi Temples, Datong Confucian Temple is less crowded, free to enter, and full of highlights.
Datong Confucian Temple has a significant history; it is the earliest government-run Confucian academy in China. Its history dates back to the Northern Wei period, and in 1396 during the Ming Dynasty, the temple was relocated to its current site. The existing Dacheng Hall was built in the Ming Dynasty and has been repaired multiple times during the Qing Dynasty. The temple layout from front to back includes Yunlu Archway, Dacheng Archway, Lingxing Gate, Pan Pond, Ji Gate, Dacheng Hall, and Zunjing Pavilion. The Zunjing Pavilion is the library in the Confucian academy, with a white marble statue of Confucius standing in front.
It must be said, the weather in Datong is indeed great; this kind of weather is perfect for photographing ancient buildings. The important thing is the feeling of having the place to yourself. With such beautiful weather and stunning architecture, quietly and slowly experiencing the ancient charm of Datong and the joy of travel is truly delightful.
If you go to Datong, you must visit the Datong Confucian Temple.
