In the Dolomites, a mountain range in northeastern Italy, the sunset phenomenon is called enrosadira. The special glow is caused by sunlight reflecting off the peaks' high concentration of calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate, casting vibrant shades of pink, red, orange, and purple.
The color of the rocks changes depending on the light conditions.
Mineral composition: The dolomitic limestone rock contains calcium and magnesium carbonates. When sunlight hits these minerals at the correct angle during dawn and dusk, the light is reflected in striking ways.
